The Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the World Series for the first time in 44 years after sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 in the National League Championship Series. The Brewers are still seeking the first championship in franchise history, and their opponent won't be known until the American League Championship Series finishes between the Cleveland Guardians and the Tampa Bay Rays.
The sweep carries weight beyond the result. Milwaukee became the first team to sweep a best-of-seven postseason series against an opponent that had swept them the previous year, after the Dodgers eliminated the Brewers in 2025. The Dodgers won 100 games during the regular season, and Milwaukee's sweep made the Brewers just the third team in major league history to sweep a 100-win opponent in a best-of-seven playoff series, joining the 2004 Boston Red Sox and the 1999 New York Yankees.
The Guardians lead the Rays 2-1 in the ALCS, with Game 4 scheduled for Friday in Cleveland. Tampa Bay is also chasing its first title. Cleveland last won a championship in 1948, having also taken one in 1920, and a title this year would end a 78-year drought.
