A federal judge in Manhattan sentenced Oren Alexander, Alon Alexander and Tal Alexander to 30 years in prison each on Tuesday. A jury had convicted the three former luxury real estate brokers on all 10 counts in March, including conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion. Prosecutors had sought life sentences.
U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni imposed the terms in a federal courtroom in Lower Manhattan. She called the brothers' conduct "shameful and degenerate" and "monstrous," and said they were a "bad influence on each other." She also ruled that they should not be incarcerated in the same facility, rejecting a request from their lawyers that they serve their sentences together. A dozen women gave victim impact statements. One said: "These men spent years treating women and girls as though our lives, body, voices, humanity meant nothing."
The brothers' families pleaded for leniency, and their lawyers described them as good fathers and husbands. Each brother asserted his innocence in a personal statement. Oren and Alon are 39-year-old twins, and Tal is 40. Accounts differ on the 15-year figure that came up before sentencing: some describe it as the minimum the brothers faced, others as the minimum they requested.
The trial lasted five weeks, and 11 women testified that they were sexually assaulted or raped by at least one of the brothers. Prosecutors called the case a "decade-long sex trafficking and sexual abuse scheme" and described the men as "serial abusers." Reports differ on how many women prosecutors said had come forward, with figures of more than 60 in some accounts and more than 70 in others. Prosecutors said many accusers alleged that the men used wealth and social status to draw them to parties in mansions and on yachts, where they were drugged.
The verdicts tied the brothers to different accusers. All three were convicted of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and of inducement to travel for unlawful sexual activity, in a case involving an alleged rape of a woman in the Hamptons in 2016. Tal and Alon were convicted of sex trafficking a then-16-year-old over an alleged attack in the Hamptons in 2009. Oren and Alon were convicted of aggravated sexual abuse and sexual abuse after a woman testified that they drugged and raped her in 2012 on a cruise from Miami to the Bahamas.
Tal was also convicted of sex trafficking in connection with the alleged rape of Lindsey Acree in the Hamptons in 2011. He was convicted on another trafficking count, and of inducing a woman to travel to the Hamptons for unlawful sexual activity, after an alleged attack in 2014. Oren was convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor over a video of an assault on a 17-year-old in 2009, which prosecutors said he filmed and emailed to a friend.
Prosecutors alleged that the men began drugging and raping women as early as the early 2000s, during their high school years. The brothers were arrested in December 2024 in pre-dawn raids on their homes in Miami Beach and on their parents' home in Bal Harbour, Florida, and have been held without bail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The twins still face state rape charges in Miami, including over an alleged assault at Alon's Miami Beach condo on New Year's Eve 2016, with those trials delayed until the federal sentencing. Restitution has not been decided.
