Bill Belichick, the 74-year-old head football coach at the University of North Carolina, and Jordon Hudson, 25, ended their romantic relationship in late 2025, according to a report published Friday that cited sources close to Hudson with direct knowledge. Neither has confirmed it. A WRAL reporter asked Belichick about the breakup on Monday, and he declined to discuss it.
His answer was short. "Do you work for a tabloid now?" he said, then added: "I'll keep my personal comments and relationships to myself if that's alright with you." The outlet that broke the story said it had asked both for comment on Friday and heard nothing back.
According to those sources, Belichick and Hudson remain close friends and are "committed to their business partnerships." The report said it is unclear what led to the split or who initiated it. A second source said Hudson has started seeing other people, though her current relationship status is unknown.
Other accounts of the cause differ. Sources cited by the Daily Mail describe the split as "mutually agreed," made to avoid resentment and distraction, and say football remained Belichick's "first love" while Hudson wanted marriage and children. They also say Hudson turned down a spot on Dancing With the Stars. A separate account attributes the breakup to "outside scrutiny" and pressure that pulled Belichick's attention from football last season, though one outlet noted the UNC program improved in later periods. That account says Belichick wanted the split kept private, especially after UNC lost 38-35 to the University of Miami on Saturday. An insider quoted there said a rekindling is possible "until Bill is finished with football."
The two met on a flight in February 2021, when Belichick was 68 and Hudson was 20, and made the relationship public in June 2024. Another account puts the start of their dating in 2023. The New York Times reported they were engaged as of May 2025, while other outlets say only that they had considered taking steps toward marriage. The age gap is reported as 48 years.
The reported late-2025 date sits beside a run of joint appearances. Hudson was still sharing photos of the couple as recently as May. They attended the Kentucky Derby together that month, were seen in Nantucket, Massachusetts, on July 2, and have been at UNC games, with Hudson on the sideline at one earlier this season. They were also seen together at a high school football game in Maryland on September 25.
Hudson's role around the program has drawn scrutiny. In a September interview with the Wall Street Journal, Belichick called claims that she was trying to control the UNC football program "ridiculous," and he has said she only helps with his personal appearance requests and has no part in university business or administrative decisions. Her presence at the Maryland game drew criticism from fans and from sports columnist Dan Wolken, who suggested the visit had a recruiting purpose.
